Weekly Newsletter|No. 22 — October 13, 2026
Hello FABulous readers,

I’ve got a few updates for you in time for spoooooky season.

First, FAB! got spookified! Go check it out for some spooky animations, and of course all of the horror and Halloween movies playing in and around Boulder. There are a ton of goodies coming up in the next couple of weeks.
The Films Around Boulder homepage in its Halloween design: a green-tinted still from Nosferatu behind a dripping orange FAB! logo reading NOW HAUNTING, with cobwebs across the page and little ghost icons on the movie posters. Saturday October 17 is selected, showing What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Spirited Away, The Devils and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Second, I added ratings to the site (G, PG, PG-13, R, and so on). Now you can tell at a glance which Halloween movies are kid-friendly and which ones will melt your face off.

Third, the City of Boulder is showing Halloween Drive-in Movies at the Boulder Reservoir again this year! Read more here.
• Friday, Oct. 16: Coco
• Friday, Oct. 23: Poltergeist

Both run 7:30 to 10pm, and one ticket covers a whole car rather than one person, goody bag included. These have sold out in past years, so grab them now. Dogs are welcome on leash, and the Lakeside Café opens at 5pm.

To kick us off, this week’s FAB! Picks are all on the spooky side.
xoxo see you at the movies, Jenn

P.S. Fun fact alert! A good chunk of the older films, including Baby Jane and Eyes Without a Face below, do not have a rating. That is not a QA issue. Those movies were made before the rating system existed.

P.P.S. I missed last week’s newsletter because I was on vacation without great wifi. Maybe I’ll write about foreign movie theatres in a future edition!
💖FAB Picks This Week
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane Whatever Happened to Baby Jane
1962 · Horror, Thriller · 135 min
Directed by Robert Aldrich
IMDb8.0RT91%LB4.2
Bette Davis and Joan Crawford star as two sisters, both former stars, stuck in the same rotting Hollywood mansion. This film is widely considered the originator of the “psycho-biddy” subgenre, aka hagsploitation, aka hag horror, built around an aging woman who is isolated, unstable, vengeful, or all three (think The Substance, Weapons). Also, let’s reclaim psycho-biddy and hag, they’re kind of hilarious. Anyway, this movie is a FAB fave and it’s showing free at the library!

The Devils The Devils
1971 · Drama, History, Horror · 112 min · NC-17
Directed by Ken Russell
IMDb7.7RT56%LB4.2
A 17th century French priest gets swallowed by a convent’s mass hysteria. One of the most controversial films ever made, banned outright in Ireland, Malaysia and Chile, and banned in Finland all the way up to 2001. Ken Russell had to cut it to get an X rating, and the uncut version has been nearly impossible to see ever since. Until now! Warner Bros. just restored the full director’s cut in 4K, premiered it at Cannes, and put it in theatres for one week only. That’s this week, right here in town. It’s rated NC-17 now, which makes it the only NC-17 on the entire FAB site. Must-see.
