Today is National Coffee Day. I think this means you can probably get some freebies at Dunkin’ or something (which, obviously no shade, bc my East Coast blood runs on Dunkin’).

But for today’s issue, I’m here to share a more local report on my favorite Boulder coffee shops. I am as obsessive about staying caffeinated as I am about watching movies, so you best believe I have carefully triangulated the perfect Coffee & Theatre pairings. Whether it’s a lil caffeine boost before a longer movie or a post-film debrief over lattes, IMO it is absolutely critical to know the nearest and best coffee shop to all your venues.

Lo and behold, below are the official FAB! Coffee & Theatre pairings:
Canyon Theater at Boulder Library & Library Café
Girl, if you haven’t already heard, the Library café has ONE DOLLAR drip coffee and gorgeous views of the creek. Tips are not accepted, as this is a service provided by the Library. I like to pay cash, especially for such a low amount, so those pesky credit card companies don’t swindle away from our library resources! Located right above the Theater.
Chautauqua Auditorium & Trident
Get a big, juicy, and affordable pourover on the bookstore side of Trident, pick up a bag of Idle Hands, and then get a bit uncomfortably caffeinated as you make that hike past the cemetery up to the Auditorium.
CU IFS & Aviano
Anything with their mascarpone cold foam on it, I promise.
Cinemark Boulder & Verb
Hear me out, get an iced matcha with macadamia nut milk. Order it for here so you can drink it out of the stoutest little glass. They’re a quick jaunt down 30th from one another.
Dairy Arts Center & January Coffee
Dirty horchata. We’re talking cold brew concentrate, sweetened condensed coconut milk, it is so good and so caffeinated. The breakfast sandwiches at January are excellent too. About 15 min walk from one to the other.
SIE FilmCenter & Lula Rose
Ok so I used to live near Lula Rose pre-Covid, and then went basically every day throughout. I love this place. The people, the coffee, all top notch. Don’t forget to check out their baked goods across the street too!
AMC Westminster & Sweet Bloom
Buy a bag of beans! And this spot has cozy booths to debrief a movie in. But beware, it is crawling with digital nomads.

This is a classic Miyazaki favorite that follows a cursed prince’s journey west into a war between an iron-mining town and the gods of the forest. When Miramax wanted to make cuts (requesting to cut it from 134 minutes to 90 minutes) on Princess Mononoke for American audiences, Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki mailed the creepy, evil, convicted, recently sentenced studio executive of Miramax a katana with a note attached: “No cuts.” The runtime is indeed 134 minutes. Miyazaki is still making movies. Weinstein was sentenced to 15 years on September 23rd.
