Happy Autumnal Equinox!

May this season bring you grounding, crisp sheets, and pumpkin spice. (P.S. You simply MUST try the Maple Sea Salt Cold Foam Latte at Aviano to usher in the fall. I promise it’s not too sweet.) Fall officially arrives today at 6:05pm.

With the change of seasons also comes a change of header photo on the FAB! site. I know y’all have been holding your breath for this moment. I believe Boulder sunrises and sunsets are most spectacular in the fall, when the Flatirons reflect a magnificent gold shimmer. In honor of this season, I chose Days of Heaven, a film shot almost entirely during “magic hour” in natural light. Importantly, “magic hour” is not really an hour, and the crew had just about twenty minutes a day to film this movie. It’s so gorgeous, and inspires me to seek out many more golden hours as this cooler weather comes in.

It is the second of Araki’s Teen Apocalypse Trilogy. He put out a 4K restoration in 2023 and has said he hopes it “wipes those old copies out entirely, because they’re so inferior.”

My notebooks are filled with hot stuff.” He ultimately talked the U.S. government into letting him make an entertainment film “cleverly devised to help us sell a few ideological items.” This is also the name of my favorite Mike Oldfield song.
